Like everything in life, Googling has both positive and negative effects. On one hand, the ability to pull up any information from anywhere is thrilling. We have the entire world at our fingertips, the ability to learn and do anything. The ability to search and find information is a valuable skill, one constantly utilized and honed in our daily life. However, this has a negative effect on our ability to remember said information. Why should I learn something if I can just look it up?
There’s been a debate on whether schools should allow students to Google information during tests--the argument being that the ability to search and find information is more important than the ability to memorize and regurgitate said information. While I agree with the argument, I’m also afraid about the possibility that Googling during tests will cut out other skills, such as problem solving and remembering information permanently.
